Degree Overview:
The Language for Arts and Humanities program is a 6-week full-time pre-sessional course designed to improve academic English language skills to the level needed to study a Masters degree in the arts and humanities. It aims to help students adapt to life in the UK and at the University of Leeds.
Objectives:
- Improve academic English language skills relevant to arts and humanities.
- Experience and adapt to study in the UK ahead of a Masters degree.
- Become familiar with University facilities such as libraries, study spaces, and learning platforms.
- Settle into Leeds before a Masters degree begins.
- Meet other students and build a community of peers.
Outline:
Content:
- The curriculum is developed in collaboration with the academic faculty and is informed by research in English language teaching.
- Focuses on skills needed for the subject area, studying with students progressing to arts and humanities degrees.
- Includes listening to introductory academic lectures exploring different themes over six weeks.
- Students work on understanding content and language used, along with core texts, through language classes and seminars.
