Program Overview

The FdA Working with Children, Young People and Families program is a two-year full-time course that provides students with the essential skills and knowledge to excel in this field. It focuses on contemporary topics such as child safeguarding, child and adolescent development, and parenting, incorporating interdisciplinary modules and work placements to provide a well-rounded learning experience. Outline:

The FdA Working with Children, Young People and Families program is a two-year full-time course. It is structured around a mix of lectures, seminars, practical sessions, and access to digital and online resources. The program is delivered at the Collegiate Campus, which is located just off Ecclesall Road in Sheffield.

Modules:

Year 1

• Child Development: This module explores the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children and young people.
• Cypf Practice 1: This module introduces students to the principles and practices of working with children, young people, and families.
• Personal, Professional And Academic Development: This module focuses on developing students' personal and professional skills, including communication, teamwork, and reflective practice.
• Preparing For Practice With Cypf: This module prepares students for their work placements by providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills.

Year 2

• Advancing Practice With Cypf: This module builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in Year 1, focusing on advanced practice in working with children, young people, and families.
• Cypf Practice 2: This module provides students with further practical experience in working with children, young people, and families.
• Research For Practice With Cypf: This module introduces students to research methods and their application to practice.

Teaching:

The program utilizes a variety of teaching methods, including:

• Workshop-style sessions from current practitioners and experts
• Case studies, presentations, and assignments
• Placements in a wide range of statutory, voluntary, and independent settings
• On-placement learning support

• The course includes two 200-hour work-based learning placements, providing students with valuable real-world experience.

• The course offers opportunities for students to work abroad, with the possibility of funding through the Turing Scheme.

Home fee-paying students can access a non-repayable maintenance grant of at least £5,000 per year. You may also be eligible for additional financial support based on your circumstances. Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time undergraduate study in 2024/25 is £9,250 per year. These fees are regulated by the UK government and are therefore subject to changes in government policy. If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees.
