Degree Overview:

The Human Biology and Health degree with an integrated year in industry at Aberystwyth University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing human health in the 21st century.

  • To prepare students for a wide range of careers in the fields of bio-medicine, health and allied professions, and research.

Description:

The program covers a range of biological disciplines, including physiology, microbiology, immunology, and genetics. Students will also study human biomechanics and psychology, gaining an appreciation of how diet, physical activity, and regular exercise contribute to health and well-being. The program is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology.

  • The program includes an integrated year in industry, which provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study.
  • Students are responsible for finding and securing their own work experience, but they will receive assistance from the institute's Work Experience Coordinator and careers adviser.
  • If a student is unable to find work experience, they can convert their course to the three-year version of the subject.
  • The program offers access to state-of-the-art facilities, including:
  • Modern physiological, biomechanical, and psychological equipment, including body scanning for bone health and body composition determination, cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic analyzers, high-performance treadmills, cycles, and rowers, along with computer-based digital video and a force plate to allow sophisticated analysis of movement.
  • Students may have the opportunity to work in research units on Penglais or in the dedicated research facility at Gogerddan.
