- Those hoping to proceed to higher degrees but lacking in the conventional background. You will be required to complete all research training units with a minimum to progress to the thesis portion of the degree. To graduate you will be required to produce a thesis consistent with the policy and regulations at Murdoch. When you graduate, you will be assessed and may be considered eligible for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidature. Candidature for research degrees is offered in all disciplines. Murdoch encourages research in interdisciplinary areas as well as in the basic disciplines.

- For students with a Bachelor Degree (AQF level 7):
- Same or Cognate Discipline: Applicants must hold a Bachelor Degree in the same or a closely related field.
- Different Discipline: Applicants with a Bachelor Degree in a different discipline must have completed one of the following:
- A graduate course in the same discipline requiring at least one year of equivalent full-time study (AQF level 8).
- Evidence of professional attainments (at least two years' full-time duration or equivalent) relevant to the proposed research discipline, as deemed satisfactory by the Dean of Graduate Research.
- For students without a Bachelor Degree (AQF level 7):
- Applicants must provide evidence of significant scholarly or professional attainments equivalent to AQF level 8, as deemed satisfactory by the Dean of Graduate Research.
