The program focuses on people management, addressing issues such as employee relations, conflict resolution, and HR planning. It also introduces students to key areas such as managing finance, marketing, strategy, and decision-making. The program aims to help students build their own managerial skill-set and deliver immediate improvements to their organization.


Outline:


Year 1:

  • MG1848: Introduction to Management and Managing Yourself (10 Credits): This module introduces students to the fundamentals of management and helps them develop self-awareness and understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses.
  • MG1849: Managing People (10 Credits): This module focuses on key people management principles, including employee relations, conflict resolution, and HR planning.
  • MG1850: Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills for Managers (5 Credits): This module equips students with practical tools and techniques for effective problem-solving and decision-making in a management context.

Year 2:

  • MG2804: Leading Teams (10 credits): This module explores the principles and practices of effective team leadership, including team dynamics, communication, and motivation.
  • MG2805: Introduction to Marketing (5 Credits): This module introduces students to the fundamentals of marketing, including market research, product development, and promotion.
  • MG2806: Effecting Change (5 credits): This module focuses on the process of managing change within organizations, including identifying change needs, planning implementation, and managing resistance.
  • MG2807: Management in Practice Project (10 credits): This module provides students with the opportunity to apply their learning to a real-world management project within their own organization.

Assessment:

Teaching:

The program is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining online lectures and in-person workshops. Online lectures are scheduled on Tuesday evenings from mid-September to the end of May. Some lecturers may release pre-recorded material to be viewed in advance of the live lesson. There are also six full-day workshops on campus per academic year.


Careers:

The Diploma in Management Practice is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to progress into management roles or to enhance their existing management capabilities. Graduates of the program often go on to study the Postgraduate Cert in Project Management or the Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management.


Other:

The program is highly practical in its orientation and delivered in a very participative environment. Students engage in class discussion, role-play, case study analysis, and group tasks to gain practical tools to enhance their own performance as managers. The program is particularly valuable to managers in any sector who have had little or no formal management training and want to strengthen their managerial capabilities. It is also suitable for people working in non-managerial roles who wish to improve their career development in preparation for future management roles.
