The PGCert SQE 2 Preparation Course equips students with the written and oral skills, as well as the professional abilities, to pass the SQE 2 assessment. This postgraduate certificate, taught in person, focuses on the five practical legal skills assessed in SQE 2 and is taught by experienced legal professionals in a dynamic and interactive environment. Graduates are well-prepared for a career as a solicitor, with potential opportunities in qualifying work experience and other legal employment.

The PGCert SQE 2 Preparation Course is designed to prepare students for the second Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE 2), a crucial step in becoming a solicitor. This postgraduate certificate is taught in person and carries an award. The course is intense and focuses on enhancing written and oral skills necessary for passing SQE 2, while also developing professional skills valued by employers.

Structure:

The course is offered in both full-time and part-time formats.

  • Full-time: 7 weeks, February - May
  • Part-time: 15 weeks, August - January

Course Schedule:

  • Full-time: Recorded lectures and 7 two-hour face-to-face workshops per module with a tutor.
  • This equates to 10 hours of face-to-face teaching per week for 7 weeks.
  • Part-time: Recorded lectures and 4 two-hour face-to-face workshops per module with a tutor over 4 weekends, plus 3 distance learning exercises to complete independently.
  • This equates to 40 hours of face-to-face teaching over the 4-month period.

The course is structured around the six practical legal skills, with each skill being taught in the various legal contexts listed above.

  • Workshops: Regular two-hour workshops linked to lectures, building on prior knowledge and understanding in a practical context.
  • Workshops require independent planning, research, and reflection, and facilitate the development of communication skills.
  • E-learning Activities: Integrated within the program to encourage interaction with learning, improve independent learning skills, and provide opportunities to confirm understanding.
  • Small Group Sessions: Predominantly in small groups of two hours duration, using case studies relevant to specific subject areas, with the tutor acting as a facilitator.
  • These sessions adopt an action-based learning approach, involving problem-solving exercises, case study analysis, simulations, and active engagement with the subject matter.
