Degree Overview:

This BSc (Hons) Event Production (with foundation year) degree is delivered at the Confetti London Campus in Whitechapel. It is designed for those who want to pursue a career in the live event production industry. The program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the live and technical events sector, including lighting design and operation, live sound reinforcement, sound theory and acoustics, electrical principles, equipment maintenance and repair, live video technology, pyrotechnics safety, live broadcast technology, emerging technologies in the industry, and live event planning. Students will gain practical experience through live projects, Confetti's Industry Week, guest lectures, and short work placements.


Outline:

The program is structured over four years, full-time. The first year is a foundation year, which provides students with a broad understanding of the creative and entertainment industries. The remaining three years focus on the specific skills and knowledge required for a career in event production.


Year One:

  • Explore (20 Credit Points): Introduces the creative industries, exploring their history, development, ethical and sustainable issues, cultural and economic impact, and key trends.
  • Create (20 Credit Points): Focuses on product development within the creative industries, covering market research, ideation, prototyping, testing, and launch.
  • Evaluate (20 Credit Points): Develops self-evaluation skills in relation to practical work, encouraging students to evaluate their work based on feedback and self-assessment.
  • Present (20 Credit Points): Develops presentation skills, covering preparation, delivery, visual aids, storytelling, audience engagement, and time management.
  • Produce (20 Credit Points): Focuses on practical skills and techniques for creating products within the creative industries, providing hands-on experience with design software, prototyping tools, and project management software.
  • Reflect (20 Credit Points): Enables students to develop critical reflection skills, examining their thought processes, problem-solving strategies, and decision-making skills.

Year Two:

  • Lighting Technology (40 credit points): Introduces stage lighting technologies, their application, underlying scientific principles, and practical skills in industry practice workshops and live events.
  • Sound Technology (40 credit points): Develops understanding of sound reinforcement through theoretical and practical aspects of live sound, exploring physical properties of sound, analogue and digital technologies, and practical application in live sound settings.

  • Production Design and Technology (60 credit points): Explores all aspects of production design and technology, developing skills in lighting programming, video distribution systems, projection and LED screen technology, design process, 3D visualization, and socio-economic responsibilities of a designer.
  • Advanced Sound Technology (40 credit points): Further develops knowledge of sound theory and audio technology through the application of sound reinforcement system design, investigating loudspeaker designs, and carrying out sound measurements and calculations.

Year Three:

  • Broadcast for Live Events (20 Credit Points): Explores live broadcast technology, its application in live events, and the technical skills required to meet client, audience, performer, and broadcast expectations.
  • Event Production Investigation (40 Credit Points): Provides students with the opportunity to undertake sustained investigation into a specific area of creative technology, allowing them to explore individual lines of enquiry connected to their career goals.
  • Emerging Technology (40 Credit Points): Challenges students to research, design, and implement emerging technologies within the live events sector to develop innovative solutions in response to client briefs.
  • Developing the Practitioner (20 Credit Points): Examines creative working methodologies to develop students' roles as evolving practitioners, through research, theory, practical workshops, and seminars.
