Degree Overview:

This MSc Data Engineering program is designed to address the growing demand for data engineers in both the commercial and public sectors. It is aimed at graduates and professionals with backgrounds in business, quantitative science, or computing who wish to develop into effective data engineers. The program equips students with the necessary business understanding, analytical, statistical, and computing skills to contribute to this vital area. The program's objectives include:

• Providing students with a critical understanding of the tools and technologies involved in the analysis, design, development, testing, evaluation, and modification of data engineering solutions.
• Enabling students to select and evaluate appropriate tools for the collection, processing, and presentation of complex and diverse data sets.
The program is delivered online (part-time) and is ideally suited to individuals who want to balance their personal and professional commitments with their studies. It was developed in partnership with and partially financed by The DataLab, which funds a limited number of places for applicants normally resident in Scotland.

Outline:

The program covers the software engineering process in both creating and working with large and complex data sets, providing students with the knowledge and experience of tools and techniques necessary to be successful data engineers in a range of environments.

• Master's Dissertation (60 credits): This module allows students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program to a real-world data engineering project.

The assessment methods for the program include:

• Assignments: Students will complete a variety of assignments throughout the program, including essays, reports, and presentations.
• Projects: Students will undertake practical projects to demonstrate their ability to apply data engineering skills and tools.
