Program Overview


This CPD module equips students with knowledge and skills in mental health-related practice, fostering professional practice enhancement and development. Through study days covering topics such as action planning, critical thinking, and diversity, participants can apply their learnings to improve care and support others. Open to healthcare professionals, the module is part of the University of Northampton's Advancing Practice program.

Program Outline


Degree Overview:

This module will enable students to develop knowledge and skills in relation to key mental health related practice. The module will support transference of knowledge into enhancing the students professional practice and promoting the development of others.

Outline:


Course Content:

  • You will select and attend 5 study days, all of which can be accessed as CPD stand alone days.
  • Action planning
  • Critical thinking
  • Identifying an evidence base
  • Development of self and others.

Structure:

  • Enhancing Advanced Practice can be taken as a stand-alone module or part of MSc Advancing Practice award; Postgraduate Diploma in Advancing Practice; Postgraduate Certificate in Advancing Practice or MSc Advancing Practice (Top-Up).

Course Schedule:

  • The modules shown here relate to the academic year 24/25.
  • The modules relating to the academic year 25/26 will be available from June 2025.

Individual Modules:

  • Mental wellbeing, including mindfulness.
  • Enhanced communication skills for healthcare practitioners.
  • The module is offered part-time over one semester.
  • The module is open to registered nurses (NMC) and paramedics (HCPC).
  • Students who do not have a relevant bachelor’s degree must satisfy the University that by virtue of their professional standing, qualification and/or training that they are fit to register for, and to benefit them from, this module and will be considered.
