Program Overview


This Postgraduate Certificate equips students to become research-informed leaders in Special Educational Needs Co-ordination and Inclusion. Through its focus on learner diversity, it develops reflective thinking, evidence-based strategies, and leadership skills to promote socially just practices and policies that support the success of all learners within a setting. Successful completion provides 60 credits towards the MA Special Educational Needs and Inclusion.

Program Outline

The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become research-informed leaders who promote socially just practices and policies that support the access, participation, and success of all learners within a setting.


Objectives:

  • Develop reflective thinking about practice and policy in the context of current educational thinking around inclusion and equity.
  • Foster the development of evidence-based strategies to improve outcomes for all learners.

Outline:

The program consists of two 30-credit modules:

  • Explores theories of learning and pedagogy.
  • Uses organizational data and other sources to critically evaluate existing provision.
  • Covers topics such as:
  • Identifying individual needs in various settings and contexts.
  • Utilizing data and evidence to meet a range of additional needs.
  • Collaborative working.
  • Ethics, data protection, and safeguarding.
  • Change management.
  • Examines the strategic role of the SENCO and/or Leader of Inclusion in shaping and leading the development of special educational needs provision within a whole setting.
  • Covers topics such as:
  • The development of inclusive provision in a whole setting context.
  • The strategic role of leaders of inclusion and their inherent leadership responsibilities and influence on provision across the setting.
  • Leadership qualities and characteristics.
  • Creating a sustainable impact in the development of inclusion in a whole setting context.

Careers:

Successful completion of this course provides students with 60 credits that can be applied towards the MA Special Educational Needs and Inclusion.
