Learning and Teaching Degree (FDLT)
Program Overview
The Foundation Degree in Learning and Teaching (FDLT) is a two-year, part-time program designed for support staff in schools to enhance their teaching and learning skills. It covers topics such as SEND, diversity and inclusion, curriculum planning, child development, and research methods. Through a combination of classroom sessions and work-based practice, the program aims to prepare participants for leadership roles in education and provide a pathway to Qualified Teacher Status.

Degree Overview:
The Foundation Degree in Learning and Teaching (FDLT) is designed for support staff currently working in schools who wish to gain a recognized qualification specific to their role. Participants are encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of their work by analyzing it in the context of relevant principles and research. Students are introduced to concepts and frameworks that support curriculum planning and the complexities of coming of age in the digital age.
- PDT1066 Introduction to SEND, Diversity and Inclusion (20 Credits): This module explores the concepts of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), diversity, and inclusion in educational settings.
- PDT1076 Using Digital Technology to Inspire and Support Learning (20 Credits): This module focuses on the effective use of digital technology to enhance learning and support students.
- PDT1079 Planning and Pedagogy (20 Credits): This module examines the principles and practices of effective teaching and learning, including curriculum planning and assessment.
- PDT1080 Development of Children and Young People (20 Credits): This module explores the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children and young people.
- PDT1081 Work-Based Practice: The Reflective Practitioner (40 Credits): This module encourages students to critically reflect on their own practice in the workplace and apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations.
Stage 2:
The second year aims to provide a broader understanding of the role of the student's setting and their role as a practitioner aiming to provide transformative learning opportunities for children and young people. Students have the opportunity to lead their own research project, preparing them for a dissertation if they choose to progress to a BA Learning and Teaching (top-up). The role of the setting in supporting families and the community is also explored.

- PDT2022 The Hidden Curriculum (20 Credits): This module explores the informal and implicit messages and values that students learn in school settings.
- PDT2023 School and Society (20 Credits): This module examines the relationship between schools and the wider society, including issues of social justice and equity.
- PDT2024 Independent Research Project (20 Credits): This module provides students with the opportunity to conduct their own research project, developing their research skills and critical thinking abilities.
- PDT2019 Work-Based Practice: Reflective Practices (40 Credits): This module builds upon the reflective practice skills developed in Stage 1, encouraging students to further analyze and improve their practice.
