Degree Overview:

This MSc Information Technology program at Bournemouth University is designed for individuals with some experience in IT but no formal qualification, or those holding a first degree in a different subject. The program aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter the business computing profession. The program emphasizes understanding IT from a business perspective, learning how to create a systematic view of business system development, and implementing IT systems. Students will be exposed to all aspects of modern business IT systems, including IT management, cloud services and their applications, service integration, and human-centered design. The program leverages the expertise of BU academics, their research, and recent developments in IT to provide students with awareness of current problems and the ability to develop systematic, original, and creative solutions.

• Core Units:
• IT Management: This unit examines the importance of information technology (IT) in organizational activities, processes, and components.
Students will explore issues and options related to managing information systems (IS) and IT in today's business environment.
• Human Centred Design: This unit focuses on computer-based interactive systems and their interaction with human users in various contexts.
Students will learn how to design and develop such systems by applying human-centered design principles and techniques, ensuring user satisfaction and meeting business needs.
• Research Methods and Professional Issues: This unit provides an overview of different research methods used in clinical research, covering aspects of research design and their application to quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches.
• Individual Masters Project: This unit allows students to delve into a complex, real-world problem within the context of a substantial, independently-conducted piece of work.
Students will develop an understanding of the characteristics and implications inherent in the solution and acquire skills in project planning, IT knowledge creation and interpretation, and professional-standard reporting.
• Option Units (Choose Two):
It covers Blockchain scaling, cryptography, cryptocurrencies, and data analysis-based scenarios.
• Semester 2:
• Cyberpsychology:
This unit examines the impact of digital technology on individuals and groups, exploring the psychological factors relevant to cyber security and online behaviors. It aims to identify means of promoting safer user behavior. It covers psychological theories of persuasion, influence, decision making, and behavior change, along with their applications in various domains. Students will learn about diverse user needs, conduct user-oriented research, and develop prototypes of inclusive assistive technology.
