This multi-accredited conversion course develops critical understanding of the hospitality and tourism industry with a managerial perspective, preparing graduates for operational management, marketing, and other industry roles. The program offers optional placement or study abroad experiences, enhancing employability and international exposure.   • Placement:
  • Optional 30-week placement at the end of the course.
  • Students are required to find their own placement, but the Careers & Employability Service and faculty placements office provide support.
  • Study Abroad:
  • Optional semester (around three months) at one of the partner institutions.
  • Students can choose to study abroad or take the optional work placement, but not both.
  • Part-time Study:
  • Students study alongside full-time students over two years.
  • Expected to study a minimum of three units per year, along with their dissertation towards the end of their second year.
  • Timetable varies each year, but typical delivery for one unit is four hours a week, split between two sessions.

Assessment:

  • Details of the assessment methods and contact hours for each unit of the course can be found in the programme specification.
  • Dissertation: 15,000 words, taught about research methods.

Teaching:

  • Taught by staff with relevant expertise and knowledge appropriate to the content of the unit.
  • Includes senior academic staff, qualified professional practitioners, and research students.
  • Many staff are actively engaged in research and/or professional practice, which is integrated into the teaching of this course.

  • Placement development advisor visits students on placement and keeps in touch by phone and email.
  • International Students:
  • If students choose to do a placement as part of their course, their CAS will be issued according to the length of time they are entitled to under UKVI regulations.
  • If students choose not to do a placement, their CAS will be noted accordingly, and their visa will only be granted long enough to cover their taught course.
  • If students change their mind and decide they want to do a placement while they are in the UK, they will need to leave the UK to make a new Tier 4 visa application for the additional year of study.
