This intensive seven-session course explores the critical role of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) in education. Students will gain a deep understanding of TEL tools, their impact on learning, and strategies for effective implementation. The course aims to equip educators with the skills to evaluate, select, and utilize TEL tools to enhance the student learning experience in various educational settings.

Degree Overview:

This short course, "Technology Enhanced Learning: Creativity in Design," is a 20-credit Level 7 unit that aims to provide a critical understanding of how and why technology-enhanced learning (TEL) can be selected and implemented to enhance education practice. It is applicable to teaching and learning in schools, further and higher education, and focuses on the intended outcomes of deploying TEL tools on those involved in their use.


Objectives:

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of TEL within education practice.
  • Critically appraise the linkages between TEL tools and learning pedagogies and their effect on the student learning experience and other stakeholders.
  • Develop successful strategies for the effective identification, testing, implementation, and evaluation of TEL Tools within their work and discipline contexts.
  • Evaluate and plan an innovative TEL tool that can enhance the student learning experience.

Other:

  • The unit does not focus on any discipline or subject but aims to allow students to contextualize the unit material to their own environment and requirements.
  • The unit investigates TEL tools in the context of learning pedagogies.
  • The unit is part of the MA Education Practice framework.
  • The course takes place over seven sessions on the following dates:
  • Wednesday 17 October 2018, 12:00–14:00
  • Wednesday 24 October 2018, 12:00–15:00
  • Wednesday 31 October 2018, 12:00–16:00
  • Wednesday 7 November 2018, 09:00–16:00
  • Wednesday 14 November 2018, 12.00–14:00
  • Wednesday 21 November 2018, 12:00–14:00
  • Wednesday 28 November 2018, 12:00–14:00
  • The course duration is seven sessions between October and December 2018, ranging from 2–4 hours.
  • Entry requirements include a Bachelors Honours degree with 2:1 in any subject or equivalent.
  • Applicants should be teaching in a practice or academic setting. If English is not your first language, you'll need IELTS (Academic) 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in the other three components of speaking, listening, and reading or equivalent.
  • The course fee for 2018/19 is £890.
