Degree Overview:

The Master in Strategic Purchasing Management prepares you to contribute decisively to the transformation of the Purchasing function as a source of value for the company. The program covers organizational aspects, category management, suppliers, outsourcing, and managerial skills. It also provides you with the latest tools and methods to support your Purchasing action plans.


Objectives:

The program aims to develop the following key competencies:

  • Strategic Alignment: Ability to understand the company's competitive strategy and align the purchasing functional strategy with it to prioritize resource allocation.
  • Business Understanding: Ability to analyze and understand all the company's business processes in a transversal way to drive efficiency improvements in resource consumption.
  • Financial Intelligence: Ability to analyze costs, impact of inventories, and capex management to facilitate dialogue with the finance department and the company's General Management.
  • Strategic Portfolio Management: Ability to analyze raw material and service markets, assess their risks, create category maps, and differentiated management strategies.
  • Supplier Panel Management: Ability to evaluate, segment, and manage suppliers, as well as define and implement relationship models between the organization and its suppliers.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to exercise a leadership style based on influence, with persuasive communication skills towards Management, other areas of the company, and suppliers.

  • Strategy and Purchasing Environment: Understanding the macroeconomic environment, strategic foundations of businesses, strategic alignment of purchasing, global sourcing, purchasing & innovation.
  • Value Creation from Purchasing: Analyzing the company's and suppliers' financial statements, cost of capital and profitability measures, supplier valuation in mergers and acquisitions processes, investment analysis in "make or buy" decisions, Total Cost Ownership (TCO), reporting and productivity and performance indicators, purchasing tracking, purchasing controlling.
  • Leadership, Influence, and Communication Skills in Purchasing: Persuasive communication as a strategic tool, conflict as an opportunity for improvement, transversal leadership based on influence, cross-cultural management, development of professional competencies.
  • Analysis and Management of the Purchasing Portfolio: Segmentation and categorization models, category maps and matrix analysis of the portfolio, identification of management strategies, design of management plans for critical categories, sourcing process for non-critical categories.
  • Category Management & Plan: Internal evolution of the category and analysis of spending, current supplier panel, Porter analysis of the supplier market for the category, SWOT analysis of the category and drivers of the business where it impacts, TCO model and risk management of the category, strategic formulation of the category, implementation of the Category Plan.
  • Supplier Panel Analysis and Management of Outsourcing: Clustering and analysis of the supplier market, evaluation criteria, strategic fit and supplier selection, Outsourcing Management, risk management and contingency plans, contractual aspects in Purchasing and financial instruments.
  • Supplier Relationship Management & Plan: Development of the panel of potential suppliers for the category, segmentation according to criteria of power and relevance in the market, identification of typologies, definition of strategies and relationship models, planning of monitoring and key performance indicators, development of the relational model and continuous improvement.
  • Organization and Change Management: Reengineering of purchasing processes, advanced negotiation and crisis management, management of change processes and communication with stakeholders, sustainability and circular economy applied to purchasing, digital transformation in purchasing, purchasing project management.

  • Leadership, Influence, and Communication Skills in Purchasing: This program develops leadership in the management of purchasing teams and the ability to influence and persuade purchasing stakeholders, both internal and external.

The program is delivered in a blended format, with face-to-face sessions on campus or at company visits and synchronous online sessions via videoconference. The videoconference sessions are participatory and take place at a specific time. They are recorded in case you miss any. Occasionally, and if the module/subject requires it, asynchronous online discussion forums may be organized.
