Program Overview

This two-week packaging design program equips professionals with the knowledge and skills to develop packaging that meets product, market, and environmental requirements. Through blended learning, participants gain expertise in materials, technology, and regulations, enabling them to ensure responsible and efficient packaging solutions.

Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The program focuses on designing packaging that meets the requirements of the product being packaged, the packaging line, the distribution cycle, use, and end-of-life.

Objectives:

  • Gain confidence in participating in the systematic process of packaging development, knowing how to manage the key criteria that condition the final solution, such as:
  • Interaction with the product to be packaged
  • Compatibility with available packaging resources
  • Sectoral regulatory requirements
  • Customer specifications and consumer use
  • Packaging circularity and end-of-life
  • Acquire key knowledge about materials, packaging technology, legal and market requirements to ensure packaging that meets the required functionality in a responsible manner with the environment.
  • Responsible packaging allows ensuring maximum functionality with the right type of material, thus guaranteeing the observation of the best circularity strategy for each application (reduce, reuse, recycle, renew).

Teaching:

  • Modalidad: The program is taught in a blended format with face-to-face sessions and interactive videoconferences.
  • Methodology: Theoretical-practical with the development of a practical case aligned with the interests of the participants, starting from the briefing for the development of a container and presentation of alternatives to evaluate.
  • Titulación: IQS grants a certificate of participation to those who have attended the scheduled sessions.

Other:

  • Target Audience:
  • Product and packaging development managers
  • Packaging technicians
  • Packaging purchasing managers
  • Program Duration: 2 weeks
  • Format: 65% face-to-face – 35% online
  • Hours: 12.5
  • Price: €1,100
  • City: Barcelona
  • Key Learning Objectives:
  • Know the characteristic parameters of each type of container according to standard material (rigid plastic, flexible, glass, metal, compact and corrugated cardboard)
  • Understand and adapt the final solution to the requirements initially set out in a briefing for development.
  • Know the fundamental stages to consider in the structural design of packaging.
  • Integrate indicators of each stage of the life cycle in the packaging development process, including those of end-of-life and circularity.
  • Program Director: Montserrat Castillo Malivern
  • Professor: Sara Bergua Gómez
  • Main packaging materials: rigid and flexible plastic, compact cardboard, glass and metallic
  • Interaction with the product to be packaged, legal requirements of the sector, and with the packaging line
  • Logistic implications of packaging, corrugated cardboard packaging
  • Optimization of logistic space, minimization of "empty space"
  • Criteria of usability and acceptance of packaging by the consumer.
  • Alignment of packaging with end-of-life requirements, reuse, recyclability, compostability.
