Degree Overview:
This PhD program is designed for students who want to explore the intersection of the environment and society. The program aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to critically engage with global and local environmental issues. Students can focus on a variety of socio-environmental concerns such as the Anthropocene, socio-environmental conflicts in the Global South, and the social and cultural impacts of climate change. The program also incorporates theoretical frameworks from Science and Technologies Studies, mobilities research, and practice theories.
Teaching:
The program offers a structured program of skills and dissertation workshops tailored for postgraduate students in the Sociology department. Additionally, students are encouraged to participate in relevant MA taught modules, although these are not required for credit towards the degree.
Other:
- Students will join an interdisciplinary community of PhD students from various fields such as Sociology, Gender Studies, Science Studies, Media and Cultural Studies, and Applied Social Science.
- Students will be assigned two supervisors whose research interests align with their chosen topic.
- The program aims to develop research expertise in relation to the intersection of the environment and society.
