The Flood and Coastal Risk Management PgDip is a part-time program designed for water and environmental practitioners. The Flood and Coastal Risk Management PgDip is a part-time program designed for water and environmental practitioners. Developed in partnership with JBA Consulting, a specialist water environment and flood risk management consultancy, this program aims to enhance career development prospects in the growing flood and coastal risk management sector.
Objectives:
- Strengthen technical skills and best practice techniques in flood and coastal risk management.

- Develop specialist skills and experience through modules taught jointly with JBA Consulting, the Environment Agency, and the NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology.

Description:
The program consists of eight taught modules (120 credits) covering fundamental and innovative topics related to flood and coastal risk management. Modules can be studied over a two to three year period to accommodate employment commitments. Fees are paid annually for the modules undertaken in that academic year.

The program is taught jointly with JBA Consulting, the Environment Agency, and the NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. This collaborative approach leverages expertise from industry and research organizations, ensuring that the curriculum is relevant and informed by current practices.

- The program is accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
- The program includes a simulated flood response exercise to enhance practical understanding of flood forecasting and response.
- Students have the opportunity to visit a local river (the River Lune) as part of the Sustainable Floodplain Management and Restoration module.
- The program provides access to cutting-edge technologies and facilities such as laboratories, research facilities, field sites, and data resources.
Costs in respect of travel, accommodation and food for the residential school element are additional.For a Postgraduate Diploma, participants must achieve 120 credits by completing six core module and two optional modules. You may request to transfer your credits from the PgCert/PgDip FCRM programme to the full MSc FCRM programme. The 2024/25 fee for each standard module is £1,510 and the fee for the whole programme if the modules were all taken in one year would be £12,080. This programme is only available to UK applicants.
