The International Masters Program for Managers (IMPM) is an 18-month, part-time program designed for senior managers seeking to enhance their global leadership skills. Through five modules taught by renowned faculty from five leading business schools, participants develop mindsets and capabilities in managing self, organizations, relationships, change, and context. The program's core objectives are to:

Outline:

The IMPM program is delivered through five 10-day modules over 18 months, each hosted at a different leading business school around the world. The modules focus on developing specific management mindsets and capabilities:


Module One - Managing Self: The Reflective Mindset (Lancaster University Management School, UK)

  • Focuses on turning personal and professional experience into new practices of thinking and acting.
  • Covers topics such as reflective management, action inquiry, management practice, virtue ethics, and business as practical wisdom.
  • Includes visits to companies to analyze managerial values, responsibility, and ethics.

Module Two - Managing Organisations: The Analytic Mindset (Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University, Canada)

  • Focuses on the role of analysis in organizations and equips participants with a deep knowledge of different management concepts related to strategic thinking.
  • Covers topics such as decision-making, negotiations, financial management, business valuation, artificial intelligence, and global cross-cultural awareness.
  • Includes visits to companies to explore management mindsets, analytical judgement, and impact.

Module Three - Managing Relationships: The Collaborative Mindset (Yokohama National University, Japan)

  • Focuses on managing relationships between individuals, within teams, and across businesses, including strategic alliances, joint ventures, and supply chains.
  • Covers topics such as knowledge creation, wisdom, kaizen, cross-sector collaboration, and insights into relationships with nature and new technologies.
  • Includes visits to organizations in the private, public, and plural sectors to sharpen insights into collaboration within and between organizations.

Module Four - Managing Change: The Action Mindset (EBAPE/FGV, Brazil)

  • Focuses on catalytic change and how business and global dynamics interact with management and organizational action.
  • Covers topics such as change management, processual perspectives on change, managing hierarchies for action, governance, and knowledge for action.
  • Includes visits to companies, public sector enterprises, and workshops on diversity and gender.
  • Capstones the learning experience while broadening contemporary business expertise and management judgment.
  • Covers topics such as political dynamics in diverse settings, non-market strategic management, bottom-of-the-pyramid markets, societal values in business, frugal innovation, inclusive market development, sustainable management, digitalization, and business growth.
  • Includes visits to companies focused on technology consulting, digital business, medical innovation, and social entrepreneurship.

Teaching:

  • The program is taught by 75 international faculty members from the five hosting business schools.
  • Teaching methods include lectures, case studies, group discussions, simulations, workshops, and site visits.
  • A unique feature of the program is the emphasis on experiential learning and action inquiry, encouraging participants to reflect on their experiences and apply what they learn in their own organizations.
  • Participants are encouraged to share their learning with a project team of up to ten colleagues in their own organization.

  • The IMPM program is co-founded by renowned management thinker Henry Mintzberg.
  • Upon completion of the program, participants have the option to progress to a Theory and Practice of Management PhD.
  • Participants come from a wide range of industries such as engineering, media, telecoms, IT, and transport.
  • The IMPM program boasts an extensive alumni network of over 500 members who have applied their knowledge within their own organizations.
  • Alumni can return to the program for further learning and professional development.
