UniSQ's Master of Education (Guidance and Counselling) empowers educators to advance their careers as guidance officers, counsellors, or school counsellors. Through a tailored curriculum and research project, students develop advanced counselling skills, an understanding of child wellbeing and protection, and the ability to address contemporary challenges in diverse educational contexts. Graduates are qualified for roles in schools, government agencies, and other settings, and the program is accredited by the Queensland Guidance and Counselling Association (QGCA).

UniSQ's Master of Education (Guidance and Counselling) is designed for teachers seeking to advance their careers as guidance officers, guidance counsellors, or school counsellors. The program provides opportunities to study advanced counselling in educational contexts, emotional and behavioural problems of children and young people, child wellbeing and protection, and assessment and testing. Students will develop an understanding of the transformative role of education in society and acquire skills to address contemporary challenges faced by educators in diverse communities. The program encourages students to draw upon their own experiences as a foundation for their studies and develop a research project based on their current workplace.
Outline:
The Master of Education (Guidance and Counselling) comprises 12 units, including:
- Core courses (4 units): These courses provide a foundation in the principles and practices of guidance and counselling.
- Specialisation courses (4 units): Students select four courses from a range of options, allowing them to tailor their studies to their specific interests and career goals.
Careers:
Graduates of the Master of Education (Guidance and Counselling) are qualified for roles as guidance officers, guidance counsellors, or school counsellors in a variety of settings, including schools, TAFEs, universities, government agencies, and industry.
Other:
- The program is accredited by the Queensland Guidance and Counselling Association (QGCA).
- Students who complete the Advanced Research Pathway may be eligible for entry to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
