Program Overview

Additionally, scholarships and potential ABSTUDY eligibility provide financial assistance during studies.

Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The Indigenous Higher Education Pathways Program (IHEPP) is designed to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with the academic skills needed for university study. The program is offered by the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) and is delivered through the College for First Nations. The IHEPP is a free pathways program that provides students with academic, cultural, and social support. Students will study three courses (subjects), online or face-to-face, all with an Indigenous focus, to develop their writing, general study, and computing skills. After completing the IHEPP, students can apply to study a UniSQ degree or a degree at another university.

Outline:

The IHEPP is a six-to-eight-month full-time or 12-to-18-month part-time program. Students will study three courses (subjects), all with an Indigenous focus. The courses are:

  • Academic Writing
  • General Study Skills
  • Computing Skills
  • The IHEPP also includes an optional Intensive Workshop Series (Residential School).

Teaching:

The IHEPP is taught by experienced and qualified staff who are committed to providing students with the support they need to succeed. The program is delivered through a variety of methods, including online learning, face-to-face classes, and workshops.

Careers:

The IHEPP is a stepping stone to further university study. Students who successfully complete the program will be prepared to apply for a range of UniSQ undergraduate degrees, with endless career opportunities.

Other:

The IHEPP is a free program. There are a number of Australian Government scholarships that students can apply for during their studies. Students may also be eligible to apply for ABSTUDY.
