Degree Overview:

This Theatre, Festival and Event Production degree is a vocational training program aimed at enthusiastic and imaginative individuals who want to maximize their creative potential and are interested in working on a wide range of productions in different venues, settings, and locations.


Objectives:

  • Train students in all aspects of production, including costume, stage design, lighting, prop-making, scenic art, set construction, live and recorded sound and video, as well as stage and production management.
  • Encourage students to map their own progression and career path through a choice of subjects, experimentation, skills practice, and personal development.
  • Provide comprehensive training in all areas of production across a wide range of creative disciplines.
  • Teach new technologies including 3D design, capture, and projection mapping software.
  • Provide instruction from highly knowledgeable professionals with extensive industry experience and connections.
  • Facilitate direct work with regional and national partners including Theatre Royal Bath, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Bristol Old Vic, The National Theatre, Bay Productions, Oxford Playhouse, Bath Festivals, and Cardiff Theatrical Services.

Year One (Level 4):

  • Introduction to Stagecraft and Stage Management: This module introduces students to the fundamental principles and practices of stagecraft and stage management.
  • Production Skills 1: This module focuses on developing practical production skills, including basic carpentry, painting, and sewing.
  • Production Skills 2: This module builds upon the skills learned in Production Skills 1, introducing more advanced techniques and applications.
  • PDP/Research and Development: This module introduces students to personal development planning (PDP) and research methods relevant to the field of theatre and event production.

Year Two (Level 5):

  • Intermediate PDP/Research and Development: This module builds upon the PDP and research skills learned in Year One, focusing on more advanced techniques and applications.
  • Intermediate Production Skills 1: This module focuses on developing intermediate-level production skills, including more advanced carpentry, painting, and sewing techniques.
  • Intermediate Production Skills 2: This module builds upon the skills learned in Intermediate Production Skills 1, introducing more advanced techniques and applications.
