The Master's in Inclusive Education explores inclusion in educational settings, examining ethical, legal, and philosophical aspects. This program develops expertise in inclusive education and Special Educational Needs (SEN), prepares students for research, and fosters professional growth as education leaders. It is particularly suitable for teachers, program leaders, and SENCOs, and can be studied full-time or part-time over one or two academic years.

Degree Overview:

The Master's in Inclusive Education focuses on the issues that concern the inclusion of learners. These include the philosophical, ethical, and legal aspects that can impact the provision of education in different settings. The concept of inclusion is challenging and wide-ranging, and you'll be given the opportunity to engage critically with the policy and practice of inclusive education, as well as opportunities to develop your knowledge in specialist areas of SEN. The MA is also ideal for SENCos who have completed the National Award for SENCo and wish to continue their studies. Accredited Prior Learning (APL) is available.

Outline:


Course Structure:

  • The Master's in Inclusive Education can be studied full-time or part-time.
  • Full-time study runs over one academic year and is divided into three trimesters.
  • Part-time students will take 180 credits completed over two academic years with one module in each trimester of your first year.
  • Your final year comprises one module in trimester one and a double credit dissertation module in trimesters two and three.

Trimester One:

  • Modules will show how inclusion is exercised in education settings.
  • You'll develop a deeper understanding of the barriers to inclusion and examine the role of education in contemporary societies.
  • You'll be introduced to the principles and practices of social research, offering a solid foundation upon which to design, propose and implement a research project.
  • You'll learn a range of practical, qualitative and quantitative methodologies and methods from which you can select the most appropriate for your own needs in your dissertation or other research project.
  • The course will prepare you to be a researcher.

Assessment:

  • Assessment takes a range of formats, including a range of written assignments, for example, critical reviews of literature, reflective accounts, presentations, and reflective commentaries.
  • You'll also complete a final Dissertation.

Teaching:

  • The degree is delivered through a variety of workshops, lectures, seminars and practical sessions.
  • Some modules have both Saturday and twilight sessions.

Careers:

  • The MA in Inclusive Education is designed for those who are working in education as teachers or programme leaders, as well as those who wish to learn more about this field and how it influences the way students (children, young people, and adults) experience education in various national and international contexts.
  • The MA is also ideal for SENCos who have completed the National Award for SENCo and wish to continue their studies.

  • The MA Inclusive Education is a name revision to the programme currently running as MA Vulnerable Learners and Inclusion.
