Program Outline
Degree Overview:
As a carpenter, you'll build and repair residential, commercial, and industrial buildings in accordance with local building codes. You'll work with a variety of construction materials including wood, concrete, fasteners, and engineered products, and use a wide array of hand and power tools.

The program offers two pathways: Foundation and Apprenticeship.
Foundation:
- Residential Construction — Carpenter Enhanced Program (Carpenter Level 1 and 2): This program provides the necessary carpentry skills to start working in the field and prepare for apprenticeship.
- Content:
- Learn to use hand tools, power tools, and other specialty equipment used by carpenters.
- Gain familiarity working with carpentry building materials like lumber, panel products, concrete, roofing, fasteners, and hardware.
- Structure:
- 70% hands-on practical work.
- Course Schedule:
- 30 weeks
- Unique Features:
- Hands-on training experience building the award-winning TMCA Dream Home Training House project in Kamloops, in partnership with the Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior.
- Students have unique opportunities for experiential, on-site learning through hands-on training with local partners in Williams Lake, including the City of Williams Lake and the Williams Lake Fire Department.
- Learn from experienced Red Seal instructors in the classroom and on the job site.
- Benefit from industry connections and networking.

- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
- Up to date tetanus vaccination is recommended
- Successful score on ACCUPLACER
Apprenticeship:
- Path to Red Seal Certification: This program provides carpentry certification through work-based on-the-job training and in-school technical training.
- Content:
- Work-based on-the-job training
- In-school technical training for levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 of your apprenticeship.
- Structure:
- Each level consists of seven weeks of on-campus training.
- The Foundation program provides both the on-the-job and in-school training for levels 1 and 2.
- Course Schedule:
- Seven weeks per level
- Unique Features:
- Once you’ve completed all four levels and the required work-based hours, you’ll receive a certification of qualification in carpentry and qualify to write the inter-provincial Red Seal Certification exam.
