Pre-Medical Imaging & Radiation Sciences
Program Overview
The Pre-Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (Pre-MIRS) program at Jefferson prepares students for a career in medical imaging and radiation sciences with a two-year pre-professional foundation. In Year 1 and Year 2, students take a general curriculum with courses in sciences, humanities, health professions, and electives. Upon meeting progression criteria, students are guaranteed matriculation to the professional phase, where they choose a concentration from MRI, Radiography, Abdomen-extended and Ob/GYN Sonography, Cardiac Sonography, or Vascular Sonography.

Degree Overview:
The Pre-Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (Pre-MIRS) program is a two-year pre-professional program designed to prepare students for a career in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences. The program provides a strong foundation in sciences and humanities, preparing students for success in upper-division courses. Students complete two years of pre-professional coursework with other pre-medical and health students on Jefferson’s East Falls Campus. In the fall of their second year, students select from five concentrations for Year 3: MRI, Radiography, Abdomen-extended and Ob/GYN Sonography, Cardiac Sonography, and Vascular Sonography. Students who maintain progression criteria are guaranteed to matriculate into the professional phase.

- All courses (minimum "C" grade)
- Overall minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum 3.0 science GPA
- Science prerequisites (CHEM 103/L; BIOL 201/L & 202/L; and PHYC 111 & 112)
Professional Phase (Years 3 & 4):
- Guaranteed Matriculation: Students who maintain progression criteria are guaranteed to matriculate into the Professional Phase.
- Location: Jefferson - Center City Campus
- Full-Time Program: Full-time means Monday through Friday, fall, spring, and summer semesters.

- Year 4 Concentrations: Students are recommended to study the concentration they are most interested in working in during Year 4.
- Advisement: All pre-professional phase students must attend advisement sessions as scheduled during Year 1 and Year 2.
Other:
- Environment: The program emphasizes a stimulating and supportive environment where students are treated as professionals from day one.
- Clinical Experiences: Students in Year 3 and Year 4 participate in classes, labs, and clinical experiences on a full-time basis during the entire fall, spring, and summer semesters.
- Travel Time: Students should include travel time to and from classes, labs, and clinical rotations, in addition to study and assignment time during Year 3 and Year 4.
- Concentrations: Concentrations prepare students for success in a specific area of technological practice.
