The Doctor of Midwifery (D.M.) program at Jefferson is a fully online, post-professional degree designed for mid-career midwives seeking to advance their leadership skills in clinical practice, education, policy, or administration. The program aims to bring midwives to the forefront of reproductive, maternity, newborn, and wellness care.


Objectives:

  • Advance midwifery-specific expertise, leadership, and scholarship.
  • Develop leadership skills for midwives.
  • Equip students with the knowledge and skills to address relevant real-world issues in midwifery.
  • Foster the development of professional products, including review articles, grant proposals, presentations, and posters.
  • Prepare students to submit work for publication in peer-reviewed venues.

Program Highlights:

  • The program features a multi-semester Advances in Midwifery project, where students address a real-world issue through problem identification, project design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination.
  • Students produce professional products at each stage of the project.
  • Upon completion, students will have produced at least one work for submission to a peer-reviewed venue and a substantive doctoral project report.

Accreditation:

  • While the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) does not accredit post-professional degree programs, the D.M.
  • program curriculum is designed to align with the American College of Nurse-Midwives Practice Doctorate in Midwifery competencies.
  • Jefferson is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to provide professional doctoral degrees.
