Program Overview
The Cultural Studies Certificate program explores culture, social relations, and power structures. It prepares students for graduate study and careers in fields such as business, government, law enforcement, and nonprofit organizations. The program requires 16 credit hours, including courses in Mexican American Studies, Black Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and an archival research project. The Cultural Studies Certificate program challenges students to investigate culture and individual experiences, social relations and power structures, and discover approaches to the challenges of today’s world. Students with cultural studies training prepare for graduate study and for work in business, government agencies, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, and any other organization seeking to better serve its community members.

- Required Courses:
- MXAS 1305 - Introduction to Mexican American Studies (3 credit hours)
- BLKS 2300 - Introduction to Black Studies (3 credit hours)
- WGST 3301 - Introduction to Women and Gender Studies (3 credit hours)
- Two more courses from an approved list of courses in BLKS, LMAS, MXAS, and WGST minors (6 credit hours)
- UNIV 3490 - Topics in University Studies (Archival Research Project) (1 credit hour)
