Students will deepen their understanding and appreciation of literature by examining works from diverse authors, including Shakespeare, Dickens, Toni Morrison, and Jhumpa Lahiri. Teaching:

The program is guided by award-winning faculty with expertise in prose, poetry, drama, children's literature, and media studies. Students will study poetry, drama, novels, children's literature, films, and television.


Careers:

Graduates with a Literature and Writing minor are prepared for careers in law, publishing, advertising, business, government service, technology, media, journalism, writing, and teaching. The program emphasizes developing skills in reading, analyzing complex material, and communicating effectively in written and verbal forms, making graduates highly sought-after in various fields.


Other:

The minor requires five courses from departmental offerings, including LTWR 199 and at least one course at the 200 or 300 level. Transfer students can transfer up to three Literature or Writing classes towards the minor, but these classes will not satisfy the 200 or 300-level requirement. Students are encouraged to augment their required courses with in-depth study in the liberal arts and additional courses in their major. Dual-degrees, interdisciplinary programs, and a wide range of minors are also available. Students can work with their advisor to develop a coherent course program that aligns with their educational goals. The department also offers a minor in English for students pursuing other majors.
