Program Overview
SUNY Oswego's Master of Arts in Art program cultivates artistic skills and knowledge through studio practice, art history, and theory. Students collaborate closely with faculty mentors and strive to create a high-quality portfolio. Graduates are prepared for careers as professional artists, educators, and more in the arts industry.
Program Outline
The program blends studio practice with references to art history and theory. Students work closely with teachers who are committed to creative work in their own field and encourage students to follow the same path. The program encourages students to strive for the creation of a significant body of art work representing very high levels of achievement. This selective program emphasizes studio art and includes several phases of professional competence in the department with the possible inclusion of other disciplines outside the department when necessary.
Teaching:
The program emphasizes close collaboration between students and faculty. Prospective students may be eligible for a Diversity Graduate Fellowship Program, which includes an annual stipend and fully-paid tuition for full-time study. The program also offers over 120 Graduate Assistantships, which provide students with professional work experience on campus.
