Program Overview


This online and synchronous program is designed for those eligible for initial certification in technology education. Students can choose from three tracks: a research project, a thesis, or directed coursework. Upon successful completion, graduates will meet the degree requirements for New York State professional teaching certification to teach technology from kindergarten to grade 12. This nationally accredited program is offered by one of the largest technology education departments in the country.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:

  • Official transcript: Submit official transcripts confirming your bachelor’s or master’s degree/advanced certificate.
  • This includes graduate-level coursework or post-baccalaureate degree/certificate. U.S. transcripts must be sent directly from the granting institution (electronic or mail). All international transcripts require verification via a World Education Services (WES) credit evaluation.
  • GPA: A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better is recommended for applicants to be competitive in the application process.
  • GRE: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are optional for admission.
  • For those students who have a GPA below a 3.0, it is highly recommended.
  • Initial teaching certification in technology education: Possession of or eligibility for initial NYS teacher certification in technology education will be verified as part of the admission process.
  • Statement of purpose: In 500 words or less, describe your personal achievements relating to your academic interests, and detail your educational and professional objectives with reasoning for applying to SUNY Oswego.
  • Resume: Include a professional resume or curriculum vitae that includes your academic history, professional background and any accomplishments of note.
  • Two letters of recommendation: Indicate two names with valid email addresses.
  • At least one of these recommendations must be from your school district.
  • Application fee: Prospective students are charged a non-refundable $65 fee for processing the application.
