The program equips graduates with the skills and knowledge to help individuals with disabilities find employment, feel empowered, and navigate challenging transitions with support. The program emphasizes vocational rehabilitation counseling, individual counseling, assessment, and group counseling. It is offered both on-campus and online, making it accessible to individuals with disabilities and current rehabilitation workers seeking to enhance their education and skills.


Objectives:

The program aims to:

  • Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of rehabilitation counseling principles and practices.
  • Develop students' skills in assessment, counseling, and case management.
  • Equip students with the knowledge and skills to work with diverse populations of individuals with disabilities.
  • Prepare students for national certification as a rehabilitation counselor (CRC) and state licensure as a professional counselor (LPC).

Teaching:

  • The program utilizes a combination of academic theory and technique courses with hands-on practical experience.
  • Students participate in field-site internship experiences and engage in curriculum that emphasizes exposure to a broad spectrum of rehabilitation services, professional organizations, interdisciplinary professional activities, and advocacy and consumer groups in the field of rehabilitation.
  • Students are required to achieve 100 hours of practicum and 600 hours of an internship.
