Program Overview
It emphasizes creativity, provides performance and design opportunities, and prepares students for careers in the arts and beyond, including stage production, arts administration, and teaching. The minor offers courses in acting, sound design, theatre voice, and more, and provides students with opportunities to develop communication and organizational skills.
Program Outline

Teaching:
The Department of Dance and Theatre at UNT provides students with access to the University Theater (409-seat proscenium theatre) and the Studio Theater (160-seat black box). The department also offers well-equipped costume and scenic shops, adequate storage, and technical facilities to support the annual season.
Careers:
The Theatre Minor prepares students for a variety of careers in the arts and beyond. Students can pursue positions such as:
- Management of or acting in stage productions
- Administrator of the arts
- Head of a department
- Manager of a program
- Managing advertising, marketing, sales, and ticketing
- Digital media management
- Drama teacher
- Acting coach
- Filmmaker
- Theatre director at a high school The minor also provides students with a diverse range of communication and organizational skills that are applicable to many careers. For example, combining the minor with studies in journalism or a law degree could lead to a career as a theatre critic or an entertainment lawyer.
Other:
- Students are often offered performance and design opportunities as part of outside professional projects of the faculty and are able to audition for local theatre groups.
- UNT has several student organizations for students to network and further hone their skills and craft.
