Program Overview
This interdisciplinary New Media Art program explores the relationship between technology and contemporary art through avant-garde practices. Led by active artists and scholars, it covers experimental filmmaking, generative art, digital fabrication, and more. With state-of-the-art facilities and renowned guest speakers, students have opportunities for collaboration and exhibition, both on campus and in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Program Outline
This practice is rooted in the historical traditions of avant-garde and experimental art-making and responds to the rapid pace of technological development. Subjects in New Media Art include experimental filmmaking, generative art, digital fabrication, performance, virtual and augmented reality and experimental sound.
Teaching:
Our faculty members are active artists and scholars whose works are displayed in venues such as the MoMA PS1 art center in New York, the Arnolfini in England, the National Museum of China and the Mejan Labs in Sweden. The program is also involved with UNT's Initiative for Advanced Research in Technology and the Arts, which provides unique opportunities to collaborate with students and faculty members in the College of Engineering, the College of Music and the Department of Media Arts, among others.
