Program Overview


The PGCert Transport Planning is a one-year program designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in transport planning. The program includes core modules in European Planning and Transport Practice, Sustainable Energy, and Transport Policy, Strategy, and Law.   • The course has been developed with input from local authorities and industry experts to address current challenges within the field, including climate change and decarbonisation.
  • The course is designed to satisfy the requirements of the accrediting bodies, including the Transport Planning Society (TPS) and the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transport (CIHT).
  • Students have the opportunity to explore a range of specialized modules, pathways, and learning outcomes, including a placement year and advanced research route.
  • The course includes access to specialist online software, including NVivo and SPSS, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Field trips form part of the curriculum, including a six-day trip to Europe to explore transport planning systems of European cities.
  • The course is ranked 4th overall for tourism, transport, and travel in the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES, Advance HE, 2023).

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:

  • an Honours degree in a cognate discipline, for instance geography, normally with a minimum classification of second-class (2.2) or higher
  • graduates with an Honours degree in any discipline who have otherwise demonstrated potential to succeed at postgraduate level will be considered for admission.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • All international students are required to demonstrate English Language capability of IELTs 6.5 or equivalent English language qualification.
