The Environmental Science MSci program at the University of Nottingham explores the relationship between humans and the environment. The integrated master's course allows students to extend their knowledge of environmental science and develop their skills in communication, project management, and research.
Outline:
The program covers a wide range of subjects, including geography, biology, environmental impact assessment, renewable energies, environmental policy, and pollution monitoring. Students will complete fieldwork and gain practical skills in environmental surveying techniques, such as bat surveys, habitat surveys, and tree identification.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed through a combination of exams, essays, verbal presentations, and practicals. They will receive regular feedback and must pass each year to progress. Students who do not achieve an average 55% mark at the end of Year 2 will transfer to the three-year BSc program.
Teaching:
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, problem-based learning, computer labs, field courses, and practical classes. Students will be taught by active researchers who work with environmental consultancies on bioenergy technology projects.
Careers:
Graduates of the program can work for conservation organizations, environmental consultancies, alternative energy companies, local authorities, and government agencies. Roles include environmental education officers, consultants, marine biologists, nature conservation officers, and hydrology, recycling, and sustainability officers.
Other:
- Students have the opportunity to study abroad at the University of Nottingham Malaysia for a semester or a whole year.
- Students can undertake an optional industry placement year.
