Program Outline


Outline:

  • PhD in archaeology involves independent study with supervision meetings throughout the year.
  • Minimum of three years full-time or six years part-time directed research.
  • Dissertation (up to 100,000 words) on chosen research area.
  • Verbal examination (viva voce) with an examination panel.

Assessment:

  • Annual review assessments to ensure satisfactory project progress.
  • First year is probationary for full-time students (first two years for part-time students).
  • Annual reviews involve a viva with an independent internal assessor.

Teaching:

  • Regular supervision with a team of at least two supervisors.
  • Full-time students meet with their supervisory team at least 10 times each year (six times for part-time students).
  • Faculty of Arts Researcher Training Programme for all PhD students.
