Program Overview

This interdisciplinary program trains students to apply fire ecology knowledge and technical skills to manage natural resources and address environmental issues related to wildland fires. Graduates are prepared for careers in fire ecology, landscape ecology, and wildland fuels management. The program emphasizes research experiences and is suitable for individuals passionate about nature, problem-solving, and resource management.

• The program prepares graduates to apply their fire ecology knowledge and technical skills to natural resource management problems and other important environmental, political, economic, and social issues related to wildland fires — such as air quality, water quality, and the loss of life and property.
• The program is a good fit for individuals who want to challenge themselves by applying biology, physics, and chemistry within an interdisciplinary program, participate in research experiences for undergraduates with innovative faculty, like solving complex problems, enjoy nature and being outdoors, have a natural curiosity about fire, and are interested in the management of natural resources.
