This open-entry program equips learners with basic te reo Māori communication skills for everyday contexts. Through interactive courses and one-day wānanga, participants develop pronunciation, language usage, and cultural connections. Degree Overview:

Learn the basic language skills required to communicate in te reo Māori with support, in familiar everyday contexts. Classes are fun, supportive and interactive and designed to give you confidence in your new reo skills. You will be able to contribute positively to the development of te reo kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori. This foundation qualification is intended for learners who have minimal command of te reo, as an additional language. It is also intended for those who have a desire to contribute positively to the development of te reo kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori, or who have a personal and/or professional interest in te reo Māori. Graduates will have the basic language skills required to communicate in te reo, with support, in familiar everyday contexts. The qualification provides a pathway for those seeking to develop their knowledge and skills in te reo Māori.

Courses:

  • CTR1.001 Mana Tangata: Learners use basic level Māori Language to help develop pronunciation appropriately and correctly.
  • CTR1.002 Mana Whenua: Learners use basic level Māori language to identify links to land and environment.
  • CTR1.003 Mana Reo: Learners use basic Māori language in everyday contexts.
  • CTR1.004 Mana Ao Turoa: Learners use basic level Māori language to actively communicate and participate in communities.
  • The programme is open entry.
  • Learners may be required to demonstrate prior knowledge and understanding of the Māori language.
  • Wānanga Learners will be required to attend one-day wānanga during the teaching weeks.
  • Times and dates will be confirmed at the start of each Trimester.
  • Tutorial Sessions: Learners will have the opportunity to have one-on-one tutorial sessions with the tutor/s.

Careers:

Graduates will have a basic understanding and awareness of te reo that can be utilised to support and complement current skills and knowledge in their area of employment, in the Public and Private sectors.
