This 20-week course is designed for individuals who enjoy working with tools and machines in an outdoor setting and are interested in the New Zealand forestry industry. The program focuses on manual processing and quality control, preparing students for roles in commercial forest harvesting or log scaling operations.
Objectives:
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of health and safety responsibilities, risk management, emergency procedures, and communication systems to maintain safety during forest harvesting operations.
- Protect personal wellbeing, team relationships, and the physical environment, including historical sites and areas of cultural significance to Māori, during forest harvesting operations.
Teaching:
The program includes a mix of practical learning and theory, with 10 weeks of industry experience. Students will team up with a real harvesting crew to put their skills and knowledge into practice.
