The Asia Pacific Studies BA (Hons) program at UCLan offers a comprehensive exploration of the Asia Pacific region, combining language learning (in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Russian) with a deep understanding of the region's culture, history, politics, and society. Degree Overview:

This program offers a comprehensive exploration of the Asia Pacific region, combining intensive language learning with a broad understanding of its culture, history, politics, and society. The program aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in or related to the Asia Pacific region.


Objectives:

  • Develop fluency in a chosen language from the Asia Pacific region (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Russian).
  • Gain a deep understanding of the region's culture, society, history, environment, international relations, and politics.
  • Develop a range of transferable skills, including communication, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Prepare students for a variety of career paths in fields such as translation, interpretation, journalism, travel and tourism, and working with embassies and local governments.

Outline:

The program is structured around two main pathways: Culture and Society, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Students also choose a language pathway from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Russian.
