Program Outline
Degree Overview:
This is a free, four-week, part-time Return to Study Entry program designed for UK students aged 21 or older who are interested in business, management, tourism, or hospitality but lack the Level 3 qualifications for a degree. The program prepares students to apply for a relevant degree program starting in September 2024. It aims to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to apply for a degree program, refresh their learning skills, and build their self-confidence. The program also provides subject introductions to the full range of business-related degrees delivered by the University of Central Lancashire.
Outline:
The program is delivered through a combination of face-to-face and online sessions, as well as self-guided study. The first session is a full day on the Preston Campus from 10am – 4pm. Subsequent sessions run on Wednesdays from 1pm – 5pm via online delivery. The program includes:
- Academic writing: Develops skills in academic writing.
- Research: Introduces research methods and techniques.
- Presentation skills: Enhances presentation skills.
- Subject introductions: Provides an overview of various business-related disciplines.
- University study skills: Covers skills required for success in university study.
Assessment:
The program requires:
- 90% Attendance Taught Sessions: Students must attend at least 90% of the taught sessions.
- Completion of all Study Skills sessions (self-guided): Students must complete all self-guided study skills sessions.
- Submission of a personal statement and an academic recommendation for progression: Students must submit a personal statement and obtain an academic recommendation for progression to a degree program.
Teaching:
The program is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining face-to-face and online sessions. The first session is held on campus, while subsequent sessions are delivered online. The program is taught by experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields.
