This module develops knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and physical healthcare for clients with mental illness. It explores the interplay between physical and mental health, equipping practitioners to deliver individualized and preventative care. Successful completion provides pathways for academic and professional progression in holistic healthcare for individuals with mental health conditions.

Degree Overview:

This module will enable practitioners to develop and enhance their knowledge and skills pertaining to anatomy, physiology and physical health care in clients with mental illness. It provides an opportunity to understand the relationship(s) between physical and mental illness and develop the required skills to deliver holistic and individualised care in this challenging area of practice. The delivery is underpinned by empirical anatomical and physiological principles and evidence based theory and practice.


Assessment:

Element 1 - 4,000 word assignment.


Careers:

The physical health of individuals who experience a mental illness is gaining prominence nationally. There is greater emphasis being placed on viewing the individual holistically and incorporating the physical health needs of those in mental health settings in the planning, implementation and evaluation of their care. The completion of this module will allow this to become a greater reality as students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver holistic care. The successful completion of this module will open pathways for further progression both academically and in practice.

Practical Skills: Intervene to prevent, reduce or eliminate the impact of physical ill health upon mental health and the impact of mental ill health upon physical health. Transferable skills: Reflective skills will be developed by reviewing own practices and environments in which physical care is given
