This VFX course introduces students to 2D and 3D compositing software, exploring key concepts and processes. Led by experienced professionals, the program covers essential techniques like keying, masking, tracking, and 3D environment work. Upon completion, participants can earn a Blackmagic Design accreditation in Fusion and gain access to industry contacts in London.

Degree Overview:

This course will develop your understanding of the concepts and technical processes involved in VFX. It will introduce you to 2D and 3D compositing software. While working with this software, you will be exploring keying, masking and tracking. You will be introduced to the exciting and growing world of the VFX industry in London and the key contacts that will help you progress after postgraduate study.

Teaching:

  • The course will be taught by Michael Healy and Ben Mallaby.
  • Michael Healy: a post-production tutor with significant experience delivering classes based around colour grading at MET Film School, Academy Class, SAE Institute and Royal Holloway, University of London.
  • Michael has been a guest speaker for Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Dublin, returning for their Summer Skills Programme in 2019. He is an accredited Blackmagic Design trainer working closely with them to deliver courses based around DaVinci Resolve. His speciality is colour grading, but also enjoys teaching VFX, editing and post-production audio.
  • Ben Mallaby: is a BAFTA-nominated comedy director of commercials and short films for festivals and online.
  • He has recently completed a six-part web series for BBC3 with Tiger Aspect called ‘Climaxed’.

Following the completion of the course, you will be given an opportunity to sit the exam to become an accredited user in Blackmagic Design’s Fusion. You will have access to these throughout the duration of the course. You'll also have an official training book via PDF.
