Course Content:

The program covers a comprehensive range of topics related to construction project management, including:

  • Corporate and project finance: This module deals with the financial management of firms related to the construction industries and the appraisal of investment in these firms and in construction projects.
  • It covers financial structure, stock market appraisal, accounting conventions and appraisal, project evaluation applied to capital investment and development opportunities, and management of project cash flow and risks.
  • Construction law: This module examines the various types of construction contracts, including families of standard construction contracts, and the common law, legislation, and administrative procedures that govern them.
  • It provides a working knowledge and understanding of construction contract legal problems and related applicable law, such as non-contractual liabilities. It examines when a dispute arises in legal terms and how dispute resolution methods may be employed to resolve problems and disputes.
  • Project evaluation: This module focuses on the range of techniques used by construction professionals to appraise and manage cost and value in construction projects.
  • Dissertation: This module provides the opportunity for students to undertake an independent piece of research, investigating in depth a subject in which they have a particular interest and of their own selection.
  • Each student will submit a dissertation of between 15,000-20,000 words. The module includes teaching of research methods.

Entry Requirements:

  • UK Qualifications:
  • 2:1 degree or above in a discipline relevant to the Built Environment, such as Estate Management, Quantity or Building Surveying, Building, Architecture, Town Planning, Housing or related discipline.
  • Corporate membership of a professional body concerned with property or construction, such as RICS, CIOB, RIBA, RTPI, CIOH, or other relevant body of equal standing.
  • A qualification regarded as equivalent to the above.
  • A good Honours degree in a non-construction subject and some experience in the construction and development fields.
  • International Qualifications:
  • Applicants are expected to have competency in spoken and written English.
  • Oral presentations are an integral part of the course.
  • Written English should be at the British Council/Cambridge IELTS Level 6.5 or above.
  • General Requirements:
  • Applicants should normally have at least two years relevant experience since their initial academic or professional qualification.
  • All students at entry to the course are expected to have competencies in building construction and the legal backgrounds necessary for professional practice in the UK.
  • Evidence of professional study covering this field or of professional experience will be sought at the time of interview.
