This module provides clinical mammography training, focusing on theoretical aspects such as screening principles, breast cancer risk factors, and diagnostic techniques. It is delivered through lectures, workshops, and practical sessions, and the assessment involves a 4000-word written assignment evaluating knowledge and practical application. The program prepares students for careers as Mammography Practitioners or Breast Imaging Specialists in the NHSBSP, symptomatic clinics, or the private sector.

Degree Overview:

This module facilitates clinical mammography training. In combination with Mammography Practice, it fulfills the requirements for the College of Radiographers Postgraduate Award in Mammography (for UK based Practitioners only). This module is suitable for Practitioners working within the National Health Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP), symptomatic clinics and the private sector.

  • Content: This module focuses on the theoretical aspects of mammography, covering topics such as:
  • Principles of screening programmes and standards set by the NHSBSP
  • Breast cancer risk factors
  • Clinical features and management of benign and malignant breast disease
  • Techniques used for diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease
  • Imaging process and quality monitoring
  • Structure: The module is delivered through a combination of lectures, workshops, and practical sessions.

  • Students can also apply for PgCert Breast Imaging if they are also studying AHP_7_0115 Mammography Practice.

  • Preparation for Masters Level Study: Students who have not previously undertaken study at academic Level 7 (Masters level) are advised to consider the workshop: Preparation for Masters Level Study, which can be found on the CPPD prospectus.
  • Clinical Audit, Clinical Governance, and Medicolegal Issues: The module will cover the principles of clinical audit, clinical governance, and medicolegal issues within the working environment.
  • Academic and Professional Communication: The module will encourage students to engage confidently in academic and professional communication with others.
