LSBU Business School offers full-time, part-time, and distance-learning research degree programs in Accounting and Finance. Students work with research supervisors to develop research projects that aim to shape theory, policy, and practice in the fields of accounting and finance studies. Under the direction of two research supervisors, students conduct empirical or theoretical research leading to new knowledge in a chosen field. They are required to write a series of journal articles or a thesis of 80,000 words.

Description:

The PhD program in Accounting and Finance is a research-based program that allows students to explore their chosen area of interest in depth. Students are expected to be self-directed learners with support from a supervisory team. The program is designed to be flexible, with students able to choose their own research topic and tailor their studies to their individual needs.

Assessment:

• Students are assessed through the submission of a series of journal articles or a thesis of 80,000 words.
• The progress of all research students is formally monitored by the University's Research Degree Committee.

Teaching:

• PhD students attend weekly research seminars and Key Skills Development Programme organized by the university.
• Students are encouraged to present their work at research seminars to gain feedback from doctoral students and researchers in the business and enterprise disciplines.
• The library offers a range of research-related courses, such as how to use SPSS or NVIVO, or how to use a reference management software.
• Doctoral students may audit selected Masters-level modules relevant to their research project.
