This four-year part-time online Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Galway provides students with maximum flexibility to achieve a business education. The MA Publishing program is a highly vocational postgraduate program designed to support CV building. It is ideal for those needing more work experience or for career changers. The program aims to equip students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the publishing industry.

Outline:
The MA Publishing program is a one-year, full-time program delivered in-person on the Preston Campus. You’ll be equipped with digital skills for success in the industry (such as InDesign and Photoshop) and develop an understanding of rights management issues in relation to digital content and their implications for digital publishing. You will hear from a variety of guest speakers and have the opportunity to apply your learning to UCLan Publishing titles. You will gain important skills for job applications and to succeed in this area of business. You will also gain an understanding of profit and loss, list building and working with Literary Agents. There will also be due consideration given to sensitivity reading and how to deliver excellent author care.
- The Major Project: The Live Brief: This module spans the academic year and is your opportunity to work with an author and/or illustrator to a live brief and produce a book to professional standards. We aim to publish all the major projects under the UCLan Publishing brand. The project covers all aspects of the publishing business. This includes: editing, project management, cover design, typesetting and creating a marketing and publicity plan.
- UCLan Publishing: Work Skills and Entrepreneurship: This year-long module lets you build a career-focused portfolio through live UCLan Publishing briefs or other opportunities. It also includes a week-long Publishing Career Conference with industry insights and support for job-related skills.
- The Rights Department: This module will give you insight into working in Rights and the integral role that this department has to ensure additional profit to publishers. You will learn about the book fairs, buying and selling rights, co-editions, licensing and much more.
Assessment:
The program uses a variety of assessment methods, including:
- Practical assignments: Students will be required to complete a number of practical assignments, such as creating an eBook, presenting a marketing and publicity campaign, or editing a podcast.
- Essays: Students will also be required to write essays on a variety of topics related to the publishing industry.
- Presentations: Students will have the opportunity to present their work to industry professionals.

Entry Requirements:
- Applicants must have a minimum of pass Mathematics at Leaving Certificate or equivalent and need to submit a Leaving Certificate or equivalent document when submitting an application.
- Applicants should also possess a good level of computer literacy as this course is taught online. age, English language requirements etc.).
