Degree Overview:

The MSc Global Applications in One Health and One Welfare is a flexible, accessible and engaging online programme. This course explores the 'One Health' and 'One Welfare' approach for global sustainable development. You'll look at the interconnected health and wellbeing of humans, animals, plants, and the environment.

Objectives:

This MSc is perfect if you have a degree in biological, bioveterinary or biomedical related subjects. It will help you follow a career that bridges the medical-veterinary gap. You'll graduate with the skills to be an excellent leader in this emerging field.

Outline:

Each module runs over 12 weeks, with two blocks of five-weeks online learning material. This is followed by a reading week and assessment. You'll take part in online sessions will during the online learning weeks to support your studies. You'll engage with other students on the course. Throughout your studies, you will receive support to help achieve your goals. This will be from academic tutors, personal tutors and professional coaches.

Modules:

Compulsory Modules:

• Research Project: This module allows your to develop and apply research methodologies in veterinary contexts.
It includes an online course and exam, which you must pass before starting your research project. You'll design, conduct, and interpret an investigation. You'll then submit a proposal, obtain ethical approval, write a journal article, and present your project, reflecting on your experience. You will critically analyse ecosystems and their health, and assess human impacts on ecosystems. You'll also critically appraise the challenges and benefits of managing environmental issues sustainably.
• Global Applications of One Health: This module explores applying One Health principles globally.
You'll analyse emerging zoonotic disease mechanisms and transmission, and evaluate epidemiology and surveillance in health challenges. You'll also appraise theories driving disease emergence, review One Health policy responses, and analyse global research. You'll assess links between human mental health and animal welfare, and analyse connections to domestic violence and neglect. You'll review challenges in managing wild animals, reflect on climate change impacts on welfare, and critically assess global animal welfare research.
• Human-Animal Interactions: This module examines human-animal interactions globally.
You'll analyse links between food security, animal welfare, and human well-being. You'll also justify animal use in society considering cultural factors and global challenges.
• Introduction to One Health and One Welfare: This module introduces the historical background and core concepts of One Health and One Welfare in a global context.
It involves critically analysing their approaches to global challenges, reviewing health and welfare frameworks critically. You also evaluate related published research to draw conclusions accordingly.
• Leading Change in One Health and One Welfare: This module will help you develop the skills required to lead change in One Health and One Welfare.
You'll evaluate psychological principles in behaviour change, and critically review linear and systems approaches. You'll reflect on cross-discipline collaboration, and apply critical thinking to develop research questions in One Health and One Welfare.
