This part-time Return to Study program is designed for individuals over 21 with experience in sports or related fields. Delivered over six weeks, it prepares students for entry into relevant degree programs starting in September 2024. The program covers academic writing, research, and presentation skills, along with introductions to sport-related disciplines. Assessment includes attendance, completion of study skills sessions, and a personal statement.
Program Outline
Degree Overview:
This is a fast-track Return to Study entry programme delivered part-time over six weeks. The course prepares you to apply for a relevant degree programme starting in September 2024. It is designed for individuals over 21 who have experience working in areas such as:
- Sport (including coaching and business management)
- Exercise Science
- Human Nutrition and Health
- Outdoor Adventure Leadership The programme aims to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to apply for a degree programme starting in September 2024. It covers academic writing, research, and presentation skills, and provides subject introductions to the full range of sports-related degrees delivered by the university.
Assessment:
The assessment for this programme includes:
- 90% attendance at taught sessions
- Completion of five study skills sessions (self-guided)
- Submission of a personal statement and an academic recommendation for progression
Teaching:
The programme is delivered through a combination of online sessions and self-guided study. Sessions run on Wednesdays 6pm - 8pm and Saturdays 9am - 11am via online delivery.

- This course is only available to UK students.
- This programme is free of charge.
- The course takes a multidisciplinary approach to introduce you to various sport-related disciplines.
- It also provides a foundation in university study skills required for success.
- You'll be supported and assessed against the entry requirements.
- You'll then be eligible to apply for Year 0 or Year 1 of one of our sports-related degree courses. These include Coaching, Exercise Science, Outdoor Adventure Leadership, Physical Education or Nutrition.
- You'll gain confidence and interpersonal skills.
- During the Return to Study Sports course, you'll be able to apply to a range of courses within the areas of Sport and Exercise at Year 0 or Year 1. Make your application stand out from the crowd.
- Students over 21 often need to be able to work around studying to financially support themselves and their dependents.
- We'll support you to develop the skills needed for the teaching and learning methods used in higher education. These include a wide variety of sports-related courses currently offered by the University.
- Entry to these courses is dependent on successful application, interviews and other entry requirements.
