Degree Overview:
This MSc/PGCert in Veterinary Primary Care & Clinical Leadership is a flexible, accessible, and engaging online program designed for veterinary primary care practitioners. It aims to enhance your clinical and leadership roles in primary care practice and support your career progression. The program focuses on developing key skills for veterinary primary care practitioners, including leadership, coaching and mentoring, education, and research skills for veterinary clinical practice. You can choose to complete the full MSc or leave with a PGCert. Prior postgraduate qualifications in a relevant subject area (up to 60 credits at level 7) can also be credited towards a full MSc qualification, allowing you to build on prior learning to gain a masters degree.
Outline:
The program is delivered module by module, allowing you to enroll for the full MSc course or take individual modules as CPD short courses and collect credits towards a qualification over time. Each module runs over 12 weeks, with two 5-week blocks of online learning material followed by a reading week and assessment. Synchronous online sessions are delivered during the online learning weeks to support your studies and encourage engagement with other students.
Compulsory Modules:
- Research Project: This module allows you to develop and apply research methodologies in veterinary contexts. It includes an online course and exam, which you must pass before starting your research project. You'll design, conduct, and interpret an investigation. You'll then submit a proposal, obtain ethical approval, write a journal article, and present your project, reflecting on your experience.
- Education in Veterinary Clinical Practice: This module aims to enhance and develop the skills of an educator within a range of veterinary clinical settings.
- Leadership in Veterinary Clinical Practice: This module develops the leadership skills of veterinary and allied professionals by critically examining the theory and practice of leadership and applying this to a clinical practice setting.
- Research Skills for Veterinary Clinical Practice: This module explores the principles and application of scientific research in veterinary clinical practice. You will develop the skills to conduct your own scientific studies.
- Integrative Veterinary Medicine: This module explores the principles of common, evidence-based physical and complementary therapies which support conventional medical treatment. This will allow informed decision making on the integration of multimodal treatment approaches to clinical cases.

Teaching is delivered through high-quality online resources developed by subject experts at UCLan School of Veterinary Medicine and their in-house digital education team. Interactive and engaging online learning is delivered in a variety of formats, including presentations, videos, podcasts, directed learning, discussion boards, and online activities. You will receive support from academic tutors, personal tutors, and professional coaches to help you achieve your goals.

The MSc/PGCert in Veterinary Primary Care and Clinical Leadership is designed to support key, transferable skills, helping you progress in veterinary clinical practice or other areas of the veterinary industry. You will develop key leadership skills, allowing you to progress in many industry areas.
